Alethea Moon,
Intern Recovery Coach
Alethea Moon, known as Thea to friends and family, is a Recovery Coach Intern, childcare provider, and provides administrative help at Peer 180. She is proudly celebrating six years of active sustained recovery from substance use and self-destructive behavior.
In her free time Thea enjoys gardening, listening to Nu-metal, creating art, reading, and caring for her family including her pets— two Ball Pythons (Ouroboros and Big Dawg), a Leopard Gecko (Drekavac “The Screecher”), a Blue Heeler (Loki), and a Maine Coon cat (Chow).
Her favorite self-care practices include meditation, prayer, quality time with her fiancé, therapy, going outdoors, and recovery journaling.
Thea was first introduced to Peer 180 by a family member who brought her to R@W recovery meetings. As she began working toward her Certified Peer & Family Specialist (CPFS) certification, she chose to intern at Peer 180, drawn to the organization’s values and its mission of recovery through connection, acceptance and community.
Thea’s motivation to become a Recovery Coach stems from a personal desire, in her words, “to be the person I needed when I was struggling.” Her own recovery journey began on February 14, 2019, following a life-threatening experience, a difficult breakup, and the news of an upcoming major surgery. That rough moment led her to seek help— enter detox, lean on her family, and begin addiction counseling. Since then, her spiritual practice, therapy (including EMDR), and strong support system have helped her in recovery.
Looking ahead, Thea plans to complete her CPFS certification and continue empowering others in their recovery journeys with her own knowledge and experiences.
To her, recovery means giving herself the space to feel and process emotions without self-medicating, and using healthier coping strategies that support maintaining meaningful relationships, opportunities, and the fulfilling life that recovery has given to her.
